Using a Vertical Compressor Horizontally

I plan to place my air compressor in the loft of my garage.
The loft is only 5' 11' from floor to ceiling.
This limits my selection of a compressor to a very short vertical design or a horizontal one.
There are far more vertical compressors than horizontal.
So -- my question: can a vertical compressor work OK if laid on it's side?

Dumb Question, I know. But I am not sure. So . . . .

Just remember there is no law that says the pump and tank need to be together.
My son has his pump under the workbench and plumbed to the tank in the attic.
The 3 inch vertical pipe acts as a cooler and has the drain at the bottom.

Maybe easier to take the compressor off and mount it by itself feeding the tank.

IMHO, There is insufficient description of the problem and options to make a reasonable evaluation and offer a considered recommdation

How big of a compressor do you need ? More than 60 gallon ? I'm just over 6 foot tall and I don't remember seeing many vertical compressors as tall or taller than me.

Granted, I've never checked out the height directly, but I'm going to have to check out my 60 gallon unit.
