Using cordless 1/4" hex impact driver with 1/4" chrome extension

Would using an impact driver like the Milwaukee M12 Surge harm a 1/4" chrome wobble locking extension? I found a good deal on a set of locking wobble extensions from Matco but my only option to get them at the sale price is to get them in chrome, hence my question. The impacts are not on sale from my dealer.

The M12 Surge is a hydraulic impact driver, so it will play a bit nicer with chrome extensions than a standard impact would.

But wobble extensions are inherently weaker than standard extensions, so you still run the risk of breaking them with continuous impact use.

I would only use the combo to take off fasteners that have already been broken-loose, or to run down fasteners until snug and do final torquing with a ratchet.

Buy impact extensions from someone else?

Lots of places sell them other than Matco.

Advertised is 450 in/lbs, so 37.5 ft/lbs is the most it could ever hope to make. Rating likely doesn't include transfer loss through the adapter. I've used chrome on 1/4 hex drivers and have seen no wear. The tools simply don't make power outputs high enough to worry.

I know it's not the same but I use chrome extensions mainly craftsman, and harbor freight wobbles on my snapon 3/8 14.4 impact daily at a kubota dealership. Havent broken anything yet. I think you would be just fine.

Even if thats not exactly what you want, might be worth buying since what you want isnt on sale anyway.

Makita has short impact rated socket adapters with a wobble in 3/8 and 1/2” for like $4

$15 with sockets on HD online.

You might damage the chrome over time but you won't snap anything. Those 1/4 hex impacts are so low torque it will be fine.

To add to this the Makita wobble adapters work well with 1/4' hex impacts.

I don't know the OP's age or level of experience, which is often the case in GJ.

My input into this would be to inform the OP that any time you operate a tool outside the manufacturers recommendation, you run the risk of tool loss, injury or both. I understand the torque limitations on a 1/4 inch driver. But, unless I personally know someones level of knowledge and ability, I try to get them to think about tool limitations and safety. Even at the most elementary level.

I think Snap-On makes an impact extension swivel socket combo in metric sizes.

With the surge there is no issue whatsoever. As previously stated it only maxes out at about 37 ft-lb an that's not going to affect anything. With the non-surge which can put out over 100 ft-lb it's an issue with the surge no problem.
