A lot of guys take out all bed bolts except the rear ones, use a floor jack and 4x4 (or drop it down on a 4x4 while it's on the lift) to raise the front of the bed for access to the top of the tank. The 4x4 is vertical under the center front of the bed, like a post. The bed doesn't have to come all the way off, just give you a foot of room above the tank...….

Pulling it off ain't the problem. It is putting it back on when you don't want to scratch paint.

I built a pretty complicated one. It required me to build extensions for the legs on my cherry picker because I built an extended boom and had to keep it from flipping forward.

I use a Harbor freight engine tilt as well.

This seems a very reasonable approach. I also have a leveler to use.

What does an 8’ bed weigh less tail gate - ~400lbs?

Not sure of the weight. I can easily lift one side ( I am 6'4'' 280 and a gym rat ) if I had one strong helper I would not need the hoist but I never have any help so there ya go. I once did the fuel pump by using the bed tilt method but it was very cramped for me so the extra time removing it was worth it.
