Using Harbor Freight 20% Coupon @ Home Depot

FWIW, every time I have used a HF coupon at HD I went directly to the customer service counter. I ask if they match competitors coupons, then confirm this includes HF coupons, then state what I want to buy.

Bellevue WA Home Depot gave me a look as if I was crazy to even think they wouldn't take the coupon. I always drive out of my way to buy from this store with a HF coupon and they always take them without question.

Federal Way and Tacoma WA Home Depot, same scenario, customer service counter, both stores required discussion and manager approval for about 5 minuets and for me to bring the items to the CS counter to buy.

Either way, I never buy tools and such from HD without a HF coupon handy, always worth the 5-10 min.

I bought the big ridgid wet/dry vac (the 6.5hp but not the chrome one) from Bellevue with 20% off, on sale at 119.00. A week later it was marked down again to 99.00 and went to Federal Way for a price adjustment on that $20. The FedWay store gave me some guff but in the end that vac was about $85 OTD.

My HD say's no and looks at me like I am trying to commit theft just suggesting it. They say only their competitor's and their sticklers about that. Yesterday I asked for a price match on the Weiss 3 piece tin snip set that Lowes has for 19.99. I brought in the printout from my computer from the Lowes site; and they said they needed an "advertised ad". I said this was the advertised price; they wanted a flyer or something. Then the said it was internet only. I said no this is the regular price there. I got them but they made it difficult. :dunno:

Too bad only Menards & Farm and fleet are "by" me, I like them far too much to take advantage of them

:lol_hitti Who is taking advantage of whom???:dunno:

Menards is my 2nd home - But if they AGREE to save me some money I am all for it. In the end THEY decide what they will accept. You go ahead and pay what you feel as just. I will continue to have a HF coupon with me on any large tool purchase as I enjoy the hunt and the deal at the end.

I used a 25% off that came in the newspaper last week over the weekend. Got the 52" big husky box for $50 under the Black Friday price. Think it was $448 plus tax. They did have to get the managers approval, but I think it was because it was over the head cashiers limit for the discount (-$150), but the manager acted like it was no big deal???

I am 3 for 4 at my local HD. I got a 18v rigid grinder with the 25% coupon and my brother got the 18v sawzall with the 25% coupon for me last weekend. I went to the customer service desk and asked first. They had to call the manager for approval and wanted to know what I planned on purchasing before the gave the ok.

  • Told today that HD will no longer accept Harbor Freight coupons.
  • They will price match but not take coupons.

This is St Louis MO area Hanley store. According to clerk, the policy changed this past week. She was told HF is all refurbished stock. Explained it was all new stock and that only used the coupons if a similar product was available at Harbor Freight. If enough people say they'll go to HF instead, perhaps HD will be swayed.

Guess that leaves the monthly ad page.

Price match WHAT.....? They sell completely different name brands. That makes zero sense to me.

I have several HD and Lowes in my area....I will not give up that easy, working on a Dewalt planer next.

Has anyone tried a HF price match when ordering from Home Depot?

I want to buy the Ridgid 10" pro table saw and I believe it has to be ordered online.

I do not know where you would put the promo code since the HD system would not recognize HF coupon......I would go to a B&M HD and order the saw, then when it comes to to pay for the order whip out your coupon and ask for a price match.

Tadwolfe, grasshopper, take a second and read everything before responding. NPOD3 was referring to Home Depot price matching Harbor Freights selection. Then IlliniBone was referring to online/over the phone orders. If you call their hotline to place an online/over the phone order they will accept a lowes 10% coupon. He was wondering if they would honor a Harbor Freight coupon.

I called my local store a while back and they will accept a coupon on any non name brand stuff so I guess it can only be used on husky and other china ****.

which I guess is the same as price matching as husky is HD's equivalent to HF pittsburgh pro range.

I did notice HF stock a mityvac cheaper than sears, so wether sears would price match then honour a HF 25% coupon is a different story.

I was able to use the 25% off single item at the Hayward and San Leandro HD today to get a table saw and a kreg jig. The kreg jig master kit (the $99 one) also came with a free kreg clamp) The union city store would not take the coupon. It is nice having 3 Home Depots within 7 miles of my house.

Thank you for starting this thread!

This is one of the few times I can say, hey, Garage Journal actually saved me some money!

Most of the time I feel like I spend more because of this site, and this time maybe that's still true, but my local HD honored the 25% HF coupon on a shop vac, so that was really quite nice!

I started by asking "Do you honor competitor coupons?" and the check out attendant (not a cashier, they don't have those anymore, just a helper hopefully somewhere in the vicinity of the self check outs) said yes.

I explained it was from HF and she inspected the coupon and gave me the discount. :rocker:

Recently I have used the 25% HF coupon from the Valpak coupons to buy a Kreg jig ($75 from $100), Diablo dado set ($75 from $100) and Ryobi 6" benchtop grinder ($23 from $30)

Stores near me said they have a policy for not accepting Harbor Freight coupons since they do not carry the same items.

However, I was able to use a 25% off paint and 15% off supplies coupon from Sherwin Williams at Home Depot on Glidden paint and Wagner power roller since they were not Behr or Sherwin Williams proprietary branded items. First time I tried using a Sherwin Williams coupon and the store manager told me about their coupon policy.

Another success story, I call this spavings, since I'm not really saving money, I'm spending it... but a little bit less than if I was buying this stuff without the coupon!

This time I had traveled to a distant store to see if I could find one of those few remaining HDX 4 nailer kits... possibly for $40. Well there was 1 left so that was pretty great and I was able to use a 25% coupon so the kit was closer to $30. Nice... great ideas in this here thread! Thanks!

I never thought about this but if they want to be Mr. Bigshot and say they will honor competitors coupons why not play them all against each other. I don't feel sorry for the big corporations who put the local hardware store on the corner out of business. You remember the one where they actually knew what you were asking for and where it was located.

My wife used a 25% off coupon and got a 10% military discount on a cordless drill/driver set for me this weekend.

She tried to use it on a freezer we purchased from them as well but not dice since HF doesn't sell appliances. Still got the 10% military discount.

I called 5 different stores, and of course the one furthest away from us is the one that takes them

Called the local HD and asked if they accepted competitor coupons. They said for the most part as long as it is a "real" store and not an online one. I asked about HF and got a quick no...oh well I tried

Last time I tried my HD put up a stink about it but ended up taking the HF coupon. There reasoning was not the same brand name. My reasoning same product just marketed under a different brand name.

Have been successful 4 out of 5 times at the HD in Highlands Ranch, CO.

The one time I was turned down the lady said they no longer accept HF coupons, I went back the next day and a different guy took it no problem.

I like a good "evil corporation" story much as anybody else but that clock is not winding back in time. Reruns of "Leave it to Beaver" are nice also but it is no longer the 1950's where the local "mom and pop" gave a kid a piece of bubble gum while dad BS'd with the proprietor and then maybe bought a bag of screws.

It is all about price and selection nowadays. I can remember back when anything outside basic hardware was a "I will have to order that" from the local mom and pop hardware and then you could wait 2-4 weeks for it to show and hope they shipped the right stuff. I will let you live for those days and just go to HD or Lowes with a good chance I will find it all in once place.

Dont think thats all true, I think its over $150 that requires manager approval. I've used three 25% off HF Coupons. One for the Milwaukee bandsaw, required the "lead cashier" to input his password but no issues, the others were $99 each and the cashier was able to do it without needing an approval.
