Home Depot sent a reply. At least they were quick about it.

Dear Mr. Todd,

Thank you for choosing The Home Depot to assist you with your home
improvement needs.

Our price match policy states that if the customer finds a current lower
price on an identical, in-stock item from any local retailer, we will
match the price and beat it by 10%.

The guarantee only applies to retail competitors in the store's local
market. This does not apply to wholesale stores or wholesale prices.

Harbor Freight is a discount tool store and they sell proprietary tools
that no other retailer has. They are not one of our competitors and we
do not price match them.

I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience.

If there is anything else that I can do to further assist you please let
me know. Your reference number is 53721663.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Kenya Ra'Aid

HD here in the Bronx refused the HF coupon. The manager told me of the HD policy of price matching and that HF doesn't sell the same items as HD or Lowes.

I tried

Edit edit

Went back inside and looked for a wrench that I wanted, found the tool section "manager" and he found the wrench I wanted AND went up with me to the cashier and took the HF coupon

Great. I bet a company-wide e-mail goes out now. Thanks for turning them onto this.

Hello - Newly minted member here. Very glad to find your forum. I never suspected you could use coupons from a cut-rate tool supplier like Harbor Freight at Home Depot so I was gratified to learn of this.

Wanna Ride, apparently the bigwigs have not reacted yet to the email copied in your post. I purchased a Ridgid r4512 10" table saw on 12-13-14 using a HF 20% off coupon and saved about $115 at the Corpus Christi, Tx store. As mentioned by others, there were dissenting opinions about the viability of the coupon at checkout but, fortunately, it was 2 cashiers and a floor person versus a wannabe Assistant Mgr who said the coupon was not valid. It probably helped that upon entering the store, I asked a cashier if the coupon would be accepted.

Do you think your fears may be unnecessary concern about the company brass turning off coupon acceptance from HF? I suspect they want our business at almost any cost; even at a heavy discount if necessary. But, I also think they want to allow their individual store managers the latitude to reject HF coupons, especially in markets where there is no direct competition in their geographical area or, as another poster mentioned, in stores where the profit objectives are not being met or the manager is in danger of not making bonus for that quarter.

While I think we're in no danger of a HF coupon shutoff I won't entirely discount the possibility you may be right. I need a bandsaw as well and won't waste any time in purchasing it (also with a HF coupon). Thank goodness Harbor Freight has their coupons in circulation on a continuous basis.

Well I use to bat a 1000.....I have been shot down the last three tries at 3 different HD and the reason I was giving is word for word what the email states. :dunno:

The last attempt was in "The Middle" of the purchase of the Milwaukee M12 right angle drill..It was all rang up and the head cashier canceled the transaction.

It was a good run

I would not suggest NOT sending any more emails if you want the discount to keep working. There is no way any good can come from that!

I am not going to argue with the store about who their competitors are, but I disagree that Harbor Freight is not a direct competitor. They carry some identical brands (Gorilla Glue comes to mind) and also the HDX brand is very much direct competition to Harbor Freight's offerings. I bet some of the items are made in the same factories and just branded differently. And some of the Pittsburgh Pro hand tools are actually better quality than HDX and perhaps even some the Chinese Husky hand tools.

I also have recently been getting more resistance than usual, so the party may be winding down. Home Depot does not have the world's greatest prices, so any discount does help. I'm always amazed at their "clearance" prices which are as little as 1% to 5% off.

Really? You guys consider HF a direct competitor because both companies sell Gorilla Glue? If that's the justification here, maybe we should be looking for coupons from supermarkets and other retailers to use at Home Depot, and calmly explain to the managers and corporate that beings all the stores carry gorilla glue, they are direct competitors thus all coupons should be honored.

HDX is competition to HF. While they both are garbage, I'm sure Home Depot would put up less of a fight honoring an HF coupon if that's what you were buying.

That's not the case, this is nothing but a thread of people trying to scam Home Depot into selling a premium tool at a ridiculous price, by matching a coupon from a store that sells Chinese garbage.

FWIW, my store has no issues honoring northern tool on Milwaukee, as they are a legitimate outlet for the tools.

Maybe you guys should chill out a bit and stop calling each other thieves and scammers

Whatever. Both places sell Chinese garbage. Home Depot is NOT a premium tool store. No way, no how. They may stock some premium tools, but that is more an exception than a rule. Their tools are low end, mid-grade and some premium tools.

I agree they carry wider variety of quality but there is more competitive territory than not. Just think of all the generic stuff sold by both places like painting supplies and hundreds if not thousands of other items.

Home Depot's prices have plenty of room for discounts from educated tool buyers. They make plenty of money selling overpriced kitchen and bath products so please spare us the tears.

HD is just as much into Chinese garbage as HF.

Just used the 25 percent off one day only easter coupon at Home Depot and saved $70 on a new tool chest. Just a heads up.

I was just at a Home Depot in Auburn Hills, Michigan and ever register had stickers on it indicating "We no longer accept H.F. 20 percent discount coupons"
