I have one of the HFT Flux wire welders that require a minimum of 20amps. I am not sure if I am going to call my electrician and have him install a dedicated outlet or buy an HFT Generator that puts out 120v @ 20amps.
Would the generator just see the wire welder as a 20amp load or should I get the dedicated line.

not quite the same, but probably close...
My Champion 3500/4k sounded like it was about to explode when I ran my Miller 130 off it, but I did weld a short patch.

Yeah. You should be able to plug that into a normal 120V outlet. You should have a 20A one someplace?

I have a 230V Hobart I ran of a 5500 watt generator and it worked fine. As long as the generator is a little over rated for your use it should be able to do it. V times A = watts required. Plus depending on what you are welding you may not be using the full 20 amps anyway. If it is a little spot weld on sheet metal for example.

thank you for your replies, yeah max and tweed you got me thinking There is a quad outlet for the dryer / washer by the back door close to where I will be working. I will try that. There is also a utility room with an outside outlet that I am sure is only 15amps I have popped the circuit breaker by running an air compressor and something else.. The house I live in was made in the early 50's, the whole second floor ..full bath and 2 rooms is all on one 15a circuit.
Ole S That would be my concern getting a generator.
