Using hydraulic cement for repairs and epoxy floor coating

Hey guys,

Been reading a lot on here, but this is my first post:

Just poured the slab for my 50'x60' shop project. They used a power trowel to finish, and while most of the concrete turned out really nice, there are several areas with rough spots or 'holes' (see pics below). This was very disappointing, as I planned on doing a nice epoxy coating and this will obviously ruin the finish.

Upon mentioning this to the builder, he said he could maybe have the concrete guys go over these spots with some 'hydraulic cement.' I've never heard of this product before, and I'm curious if it would be appropriate for this type of repair? And if so, will it be compatible with a future epoxy coating over these areas? Thanks in advance for your help.

These look to us like high spots which can be grinded off with hand grinder and cup wheel or similar. Make sure to prime the floor if using epoxy as this looks like you would have varying porosity.

Thanks for the input, but I think the pictures and shadows are deceiving: these are actually low spots- anywhere from 1/8" to almost 1/2" deep and ranging in size from the size of your thumb to the size of your palm. This is why they must be filled. I need to know if this can be done adequately with this so-called 'hydraulic cement,' and if so, will the epoxy coatings adhere to it?

Thanks Again,

-Matt

If they are low spots and small like that hydraulic cement should be fine.

Armorpoxy- thanks; I was specifically thinking about using your product. Is there a better fill to use considering the planned floor coating- maybe something epoxy based? Or will it adhere to this hydraulic cement without any trouble?

Just clean it out, wire brush, vacuum.

Going forward kindly direct technical questions to us directly below as GJ is not always monitored. Thank you.
