Using Lockers

I found some lockers on GovDeals and am thinking if I can find a way to use them for storage in the garage. Anyone have lockers they have re-purposed?

Seems like a good place to store chemicals and paint ect.

Also if you have anything that you want to keep out of reach of kids you could lock it in there.

Not a bad idea IMO if the price is right on them; decently cheaper than similar cu ft of metal cabinets.

They work great on their sides. Hang on the wall and you have a long lockable cabinet for power tools.

I want one to store overalls etc in away from the mice, other than that maybe a gun cupboard or for storing other long thin things!

I think they'd be perfect... I'd add some wood for shelves though..

My double wide locker with wood shelving has served as my

hazzardous material storage for near 30 years. Works like a

safe should work. (keeps everything in one place)

You won't be sorry. I would be less than enthusiatic to use

it as a gun safe. Pretty thin metal for real peace of mind.

I think they'd be perfect... I'd add some wood for shelves though..

I added 4 wood shelves to a single wall locker I had. Used 1/4" plywood for the shelf material. I picked up a bunch of right-angle brackets and some 1/2" 1/4-20 bolts and nuts. I also uses some hangers on the inside of the door for holding roller frames and funnels.

I had a stack of about ten, removed the doors and set them on their side as shelving.

I may jump on it. The lot is for 30 lockers. Currently at $106 bid. They have a few other interesting things as well

I put $160 on the lot of 30 lockers. I figure $5 a per metal cabinet isn't bad and I can add shelves and cut and weld as needed to fit my space. I also put $15 on the two metal/glass wall cabinets

I was looking for a set of lockers for my new garage recently. All the ones that I could find that were in decent shape were EXPENSIVE!! Luckily, I ran across a country club that was redecorating their men's locker room. I ended up with 10 country club style lockers, white melamine bodies and oak doors for $300 total. They were a complete pain in the *** to move to my house. But they are NICE!!
Once they are installed, I'll post up pics.

Oh liking the metal/glass wall cabinets. Then I could actually see all the misc **** that i would end up putting in there, instead of guessing.

Thirteen locker units are fastened to a wall in my pole shed...I made a plank shelf between the poles, and fastened one group of six, and one group of seven between the poles.. These lockers are the split style, where the top and bottom compartments are each 30" high; for a total height of 60" per unit. Total of 26 locker compartments.


There is a 4' wide X 6'+ high bank of 24 skate lockers in the shop that I really have no use for in there... buggers will fill up if they get mounted in the pole shed.. There is a 12' bench out there that is MESS... So it's time to mount the skate lockers out in the pole shed and clean up that blasted messy bench.. Free was a nice price..

Eh, unless you have tons of space and a easy way to transport them, I think they may be more of a pain than efficient storage for a shop.

Jump on them. 106 for 30 is about... 3 bucks and change each for lockers that cost a couple hundred bucks.

We had a few of these (work surplus) and used 2 runs of allthread and 8 nuts/washers per shelf (you need to nut it inside and out or the walls will pull in), put plywood shelves in them, and instant tool, paint, and chemical storage.

Unless you have no space to set them up, you can't go wrong on this deal. They look superclean as well...

The third locker from the right, bottom pic above, was mine in Basic in 1980. Looks exactly like it, must be it.
