Using OSB on Garage Walls

I see lots of people on here and all over the internet with OSB on the walls of their garage. It makes running new circuits a lot easier, and you can hang things securely anywhere along rather than hunting for a stud. I'd like to do it in my garage, but I wonder if either my fire code is different than everyone else or if everyone else is ignoring it.

As far as I understand the local code the drywall on any shared walls with inhabited spaces has to provide a fire barrier. It has a certain amount of time it needs to be able to withstand a fire and as such the drywall in my garage right now is the thicker 5/8" stuff. Is there a fire-rated OSB or something that people are using? I had to cut into my drywall to replace an outlet and now am either going to have to set to patching up the hole or tear down all the drywall and replace it with something else. Kinda fishing for ideas here.

Drywall on the common wall with the house, OSB on all others. You really don't notice the difference.

Does code allow putting the OSB over the 5/8 drywall on the common wall? Might be worth a call..

put the osb under the drywall then you still have the benefits of osb and the fire rating of drywall or there is fire rated plywood but its high $$$

I have osb on my walls on the detached garage and love it but i would not have done it if it was an attached garage. My garage was an older building with studs that were not all even and evenly spaced so osb was a better choice for me. If it was an attached garage it would have gotten drywall.

I once used OSB on my pump house walls and ceiling, but I didn't like the odor given off and even after being painted still looked bad. Won't do that again, I like plywood better.
