Using pipe insulation on wires near hot ducts?

I see people use fiberglass insulation, but it looks kinda tacky. Is it ok instead to use the pipe insulation instead around wires that are close to hot air ducts?

Thanks

How hot are we talking? If it's too hot for the wires I think it would be too hot for the pipe insulation. That stuff melts at a pretty low temp. But I don't really understand the situation you need this for... A bit more info and some pictures would help.

He could always use asbestos insulation, and that can handle any heat problem he can think of. LOL

I'm assuming HVAC ducts in an unfinished basement? Shouldn't the ducts be insulated instead? Wires generate heat especially when bundled. You want the wires to shed heat not trap it when wrapped up in insulation. Insulating the wires seems counterintuitive

Those look like HVAC ducts and are smooth where the wire touches them. They don't need any protection. If it was at a joint in the duct I would put something to protect them. Probably would use the foil tape for HVAC ducts to cover the sharp edges and call it good.

You could cut a slot in PVC and set over the wires

What about wires bundled in walls that are insulated with spray foam or fiberglass?

****! Instant house fire. :lol_hitti

Just kidding. I agree since we run wires through insulation all the time. The point is more that shouldn't the duct be insulated rather than the wires.

Yeah I don't know. They are within the structure and not up against an exterior wall, crawlspace or heated attic so I don't think much benefit would be had from insulating them.

Leaving them **** like that might make a nice warm spot on the floor for the dog to lay.
