Using Pipe insulation to stop doors from hitting supports?

Hi,

In my last house, a buddy got me a piece of pipe insulation to put around the support beams in the garage. I lost touch with him & went to the local plumbing supply house & they said they dont carry anything larger than 2 inch insulation.

The one I had before had some tape to stick the two sides together.

I measured the post using a string & wrapping it around the pole, it came out to a little more than 12 inches, I would guess its a 4" round pole.

Any ideas where to get something to protect the doors from dents (my wife likes to swing the door open wildly).

Go to an upholstery shop and buy some closed cell foam by the yard. Cut a piece slightly longer than the circumference of your post and attach with zip ties or tape.

I've seen people use swimming pool noodles for different applications. Cut a slit in it and tape or zip tie..

Second vote on the swimming pool noodles.
Thicker and brighter colors.

2 noodles cut into quarters should fit neatly around the pole.

How about steam pipe fiberglass insulation? http://www.statesupply.com/if1050x It has a vinyl outside covering so it should look okay and appears to be pretty inexpensive.

I am pretty sure that grainger link is the right product, but there has got to be a cheaper source than that.

For the pool noodles, if the pipe is 4" in diameter, the pool noodle is not really big enough, or is the idea just to get half of the pole?

You could use some nice carpet padding and wrap it in duct tape.
