Using Pressure Washer Hose for Air Lines???

I am planning on buying a Quincy 5 HP/60 Gallon compressor. My plan is to use 1/2" threaded galvanized pipe from the compressor to the ceiling. Once in the ceiling, I will have (5) different drops for hoses reels and tire machines etc. I was thinking about using 3/8" 6,000 PSI / 240 degree Pressure Washer Hose with Quick Connect Fitting. I sell Pressure Washer Equipment, so I already have all the fitting and hoses. Has anyone ever used Pressure Washer Hose for air lines??? Do you see any problems down the line?

It is a bit of overkill. Also, i dont think pressure washing quick connects are designed to handle air.

Going by memory, the pressure washer quick connects are not check valved. Once you disconnect the air tool you will have a live hose, the pressure will not stay in the hose. As for using pressure washer hose, if you got it use it. It has the strength to hold the air pressures. You will find it very stiff to deal with, but if that doesn't bother you, go ahead. You can always change the fittings to air fittings, they are standard NPT.

They are definitely not check valved unless you have special fittings. Pressure washer hose is quite stiff and would be a pain to use as air lines, in my opinion.

You will be fine with galvanized pipe.

Are you talking about using washer hose to run to the drops or using it as the drops?

on sale at HF till 10-31 3/8" 50' goodyear 19.95 also same price at Northern tools.. Pressure hose would work with proper fittings but even at dealer cost isn't it a lot more expensive?

We tried this at work and found that without a pressure crimper that the constant air seeps around the fittings after we cut to the desired length. Ended up putting 1/2" air line up.

Koditten, you are correct, pressure washer hose does not use check valves. I was going to use the pressure washer hose to run to the drops. I would convert from the 3/8" pressure washer quick connect fitting to air line fitting from the ceiling down. I would not use the pressure washer hose as air hose in the shop, as too heavy and too hard to handle. I tend to over do a lot of things, but would rather spend more time/money and it last a lot longer. Thanks for everyone's input. If I go this route I will post some pictures.

Don't re-invent the wheel. Pressure washer hose is not rated for air delivery.
Do it once, do it right.

A rubber hose will not do much to cool the air and help condense the water out, you may end with moisture coming out of your drops. 3/8" would be a little restrictive also, might not be an issue with most tools but anything that eats up the air might not run as well as it could.

" galv pipe not recomended...plain black pipe "

Not recommended by Who ... I much prefer NO RUST in the air I connect air tools to then rust particals which develope in black pipe. Galvanized pipe, Stainless and copper are all used for Airlines, Processed Air and Medical Air ... black pipe is the low budget route ..

To answer your question if you have acess to the pressure wash hose ... at a discounted price my personal opinion is its little stiff and I prefer 1/2 OD line for my air tools and spray guns ...

My 2 cents.

and why wouldn't you have a filter/pressure regulator at the end of each drop if painting anyway???

Why add a filter if you dont need one ? Rust slows the velocity, evenntually reduces the size of the pipe, contaminates the air ...etc. A pressure reg an water seperator is a good idea.

I;m sorry i dont agree with the material black pipe only ...
