Has anyone ever used retractable casters for a workbench?

I was thinking about buying some 4x4 posts and mounting retractable casters on the bottom of the posts, then build a workbench that will be able to move in the garage.

Anyone ever tried this using Retractable Casters and if so did it work for you.

Woody:)

Instead of retractables casters, you could weld regular heavy-duty casters on one side of the workbench, just a hair off the ground and two handle on the other side. That way, as soon as you'll lift/tilt the bench it will roll. That's what i've done with my press and it worked great.

i did a similar thing with my table saw that you did with your press saumon. works great. very stable to work with and easy to roll around by picking one end up.

to answer your question, this subject has been talked to death on the board. do a quick search.

harbor freight has a 110v fluxcore welder for $120 or so when it goes on sale. i have had mine for about 6 years and have ran around 10 lbs of wire through it. it works well for steel up to 3/16 thick. not the prettiest welds, but gets the job done. a grinder makes them beautiful! :)

On a 4x4 post, you could fasten them with 3'' 5/16'' or 3/8'' lag bolts.
