I've already got my garage sided (only one side, mama has the other) in industrial shelving and took one section cut in half vertically to produce a good sized workbench (topped in two solid core doors and covered in sheet metal), and now I'm working on the replacement tool chest/tool center for my garage and hobbies. I bought the 5 drawer large stainless chest from Lowes. Not either of the two largest ones you see most men drool over when you're in the store, but the largest one would normally consider to be a "homeowner's" choice. Drawers are two foot by a foot and a half and two and a half inches high so I can get most any sort of "hand tool" to fit and am currently working to that end.
I'm elevating the chest with some Northern Tool solid wheel 6" casters which have a mounting height of 7.5" which will bring it up just high enough not to stoop and easily fit under my lowest shelving units shelf I've allocated for the tool box. Always looking to add to my work area/center, I saw an interesting item when at Lowes. It was a stainless sheet metal work desk that comes disassembled and has a large backboard of stainless pegboard. I was wondering what gauge I might have to locate in order to produce a self supporting wall of sorts in and around my shelving area and possibly to line the outside of my stainless tool box to increase its storage capabilities as well being strong enough to really use and not just to look at. I'm afraid that the "workdesk" I speak of at Lowes might just be in that later group of "nice to look at" type of article. Again, they may have had the local school kid with a summer job, assemble the demo for them, but it did seem kind of wobbly to me. In fact my "double walled" stainless tool box uses a surprisingly thin piece of stainless and relies upon the strength of the design and it all being pop riveted and screwed together for its strength.
I've done quite a bit of searching here and on the web, but am having a bit of a go at trying to locate the stainless peg sheets (I'd guess you'd call it?) Maybe that's the problem if I'm searching for the wrong named item. I've been looking under the general terms of stainless pegboard? Any ideas on the search or vendors that carry it and has anyone dealt with it enough to suggest a gauge to over engineer any design for hard use? Smithy.
