Anyone have experience with just putting thinset on a wall and troweling? Thin set is just portland, clay, lime and polymer for binding to substrates. Reason I ask is I usually use lime but the only place close is canada and the cost is super crazy now.

Let me know, we use hardie backer in the room on the floor and walls and I'm just thinking about building/troweling thinset and leaving that look for now.

look into cement-all or rapid set. I forget which one i’ve seen used to parge concrete formed walls. you’re basically doing a brown coat like stucco so premixed mortar might work. you should look into fabric mesh over joints. it still might crack but might not
