Our brake inspection guy pulls wheels on 15 cars a day and only uses torque sticks with air impact and haven't had any problems doing so. I'm at 40 years in the business as a mechanic. Before that for 20 years only used an impact to get tight and final tightening with torque wrench. Before that I would use my break over bar and that worked fine. I could get close to 100 ft lbs consistently. Now, I only use torque sticks because that's what we're told to use and it has worked so far. On my own cars at home I only use torque wrench because I don't have torque sticks. One can wear out torque wrench's too. The last one I had was digital and would have to replace batteries fairly often.
