Sorry to bump an old thread. I wandered over here from the more recent "The best utility knife" thread.

I have a yellow Cman utility knife that has served me very well over the last maybe 20 years. I tried to find another one for a spare but could never find them again. It has a blunt end and kinda reminds of a fish tail...

Here's my older Craftsman utility knife. I have no idea who it was made by.

It took me quite awhile to find my Craftsman utility knife. I passed on a few, either because the price was unreasonably high or the knife was hammered (sometimes both).

Here's an ideal utility knife...

It's very similar to my Ideal utility knife.

During the search for my Craftsman I discovered that this style knife was also relabeled and sold by Armstrong, Matco and Starrett (based on a comment from another thread, Starrett might be the OEM). Until this evening I hadn't seen the Ideal version. I wouldn't be surprised if there are others out there. Here is a list of the variants I am aware of (with Ideal added). I've only ever seen stock images for the Armstrong and Matco (shown below). The Armstrong image seems to have disappeared with the brands demise.

Armstrong 68-310
Ideal 35-300
Matco PK200
Craftsman
- 9-9487 (Grey)
- 9-94875 (Hi-Vis Yellow)
- 9-94876 (Hi-Vis Green)
- 9-94877 (Hi-Vis Orange)
Starrett
- S01 63182 (Grey)
- S01Y 66105 (Yellow)
- S01G 64399 (Green)
- S01O 64400 (Orange)

Depends on what I'm doing. If I've got a tool belt on I strongly prefer Stanley fixed blade 199. If I don't have a safe place to keep it I usually use a Stanley 99

That's interesting information. I haven't seen any like it for a long time.

I fixed my poor spelling or auto-corrected post.

I have a couple variants of this knife:
Imageresizer.ashx

Mine doesn't have the string cutting slot, but it is my favorite non folding knife. For drywall, I do like a fixed blade.
