Do any of you guys have quick-change knives you're happy with?

I've been thinking about something like the 10-499

I just have the standard Stanley knives and unscrewing the thing to change blades can get real old when I'm working on something that dulls the blades quickly.

If you're still looking to purchase one of these, ACE has these in their monthly hot buys for $4.99.

And just as an FYI, I found more of a selection of knives at HD compared to Lowes.

I bought a two pack of the Dewalt retractable that was posted on the front page. Good and sturdy. Blades that came in them changed my outlook however. I dont usually drink the Dewalt kool-aid but their blades are the best I have found. Way sharper and more durable than the Stanley bulk packs I used to buy. I bought the bulk pack of the Dewalts and won't look back.

I've tried many but finally settled on the Milwaukee.

+1
I've the standard gray Stanley cutter with the retractable blades that is a pain in the A$$ due the blade retracting at the slightest application of cutting pressure.

I've the cheapo Harbor Freight folding cutter (two actually) and have been happy with them - they have been assigned truck toolbag duty.

But the one I decided to keep in my shop toolbox is the Milwaukee blade SARG shows. Study, heavy, nice action, and firm blade lockup without any play.

Watching this thread with interest as I am looking to stock some good quality utility knives. The Lenox ones I had sold out and were quite popular.

Cheers,

Mark.

That's one thing I need to do is decipher what blades are good for what type job. I just have your normal straight blades that I have in bulk from Stanley.

Don't overlook an ole fashion box cutter. I just purchased a dozen of them. Cheap to buy. Safe for the pocket...with some common sense, and always sharp, (single edge razor blade). I find them excellent for cardboard, stryo. wires, and lots of other things.

I recently re-discovered them, when I noticed in my draw, a box cutter that I used working after school in a grocery store, circa 1962-3.

Yeah, no bar codes then. When the prices changed, we took some steel wool to wipe off the old inked price, and then stamped on the new price. Seems I was always doing the one cent increases on the zillion Campbell soup cans. Thats how important I was:rolleyes:

I used to use this Lenox model as a roofer. It did a pretty fine job over the years. I bought a second one as a back-up.

I used this at the job once, but after one day, it went straight to the home toolbox. It's too light-duty for what I needed it for, but it's good for around the house.

My boss had this one and it was a beauty and joy to use. Rugged design and construction.
