Utility trailer deck

I am looking to stain my new decking I am installing on my 5X8 utility trailer, and would like to know how much decking stain I need. I went on a couple of the websites and it is telling me 1 gal for 40 sq/ft., painting both sides would be 80 sq/ft. A gallon seems like a lot. What is you opinion or professional thoughts?

Look at the coverage rate on whatever product you buy. They’re all different.

I stain decks for a living and find that the mfg stated coverage rates fall short of what they claim. I always buy a little extra.

Don’t even think about water based For a while impossible to get in most states you can now get it right at HD again. 30/ gallon. Go figure[emoji849]it’s even cheaper than the garbage latex
Soak hell out of it. You’ll be glad you did
