I need a small trailer now & then. Not for heavy use or long distances, just to carry a mower occasionally. About a 4x6.
I’ve been watching Craigslist & other forums but not found much. Harbor Freight has a 40x48 for 300 & a 4x8 for 350. I would have to put plywood on either one.

Have any of you tried these HF trailers?

Yes! I have 2.

They're fine for your use!

I had one of the 1750lb capacity ones. I put a 3)4" plywood deck on it and 2' plywood sides. I loaded it up with maybe 2500lbs of stuff and drive it behind a Ford Focus from Ohio to Utah without issue. (Well, it too lk forever to get up to speed and I tried to stay off the brakes. But both the car and the trailer were fine)

It lasted for about 7 years after that. Then one day I loaded it up with maybe 2500-3000lbs of scrap metal. Usually when I did something like that , if I put it in reverse and caught the wheel on a curb or in a hole, it would bring the ford form is to a stop. No problem. I'd check what was going on, and then pull it out of the joke without issue. Except this time I didn't have it behind the ford focus. I had it behind a 1972 International Harvester 3/4 ton truck,. I backed it up, the wheel caught in a really deep pot hole, I heard loud bang. 6000lbs of Truck plus another ton of scrap in the bed didn't stop. The trailer was completely mangled and destroyed. But I don't blame the little harbor freight trailer. I abused it repeatedly and it took everything I could dish out until I backed over it with a truck.

I have one of those mesh screen ramp with the fold down front (gain a foot) trailers from HD. I bought it over 10 years ago for probably close to half for what they are retailing for today. It was great for hauling the quad. Replaced the tires last year and was going to sell it. But changed my mind. Originally had one signal light that didn’t work they repaired it. Couple of years later same light this time I repaired it. Funny how convoluted people can make a repair to a ground with trailer wiring. Actually many of the connections were questionable possibly tight from new ??

Get the bigger one. The shorter the trailer is, the harder it is to back up. I had one of the 40x48's and it became useful with a longer tongue and a larger deck... Basically making it a 40x96.

Lots of people love the little HF trailers. They were in short supply last year for a while and used ones going for a premium. There are a couple facebook groups dedicated to them and the things people make from them.

Damn. Mine was on sale for 250 then I used a 25 percent off coupon. But that was 13 years ago...
