UV Cured Floor Coatings... what do you know??

Im looking to redo a bunch of hardwood, and ran across UV cured wood finishes. I am familiar with UV adhesives, and some coatings- and was aware that prefinished flooring uses UV. Had never seen it done on a floor installed.

Well they are.

Any products for garage/concrete?

Any experience?

And any place rent UV lights??

I've got uv equiptment for curing hardwood flooring. We've been using it for around 6 years, but the whole concept for on site finishing is still in infancy. More mfg's are making uv curable finish, but some aren't testing the products as much as they should. (A buddy had to eat a 4000sf resand that a MF rep helped him coat and cure , when it failed.

I don't think anyone rents the stuff, and it's pricey (5-10k)

The system makes sense for commercial projects where downtime is limited, not much advantage for a homeowner

My last wood floors were Glitsa formaldehyde cures. Does that date me?

Other that 'time to traffic', are there other benefits? For a homeowner, and for a garage application Id say primarily durability? I would think a UV cure could really reduce volatilies and result in a more controllable cure.

There are some amazingly tough UV cured adhesives.... it would seem the chemistry could lend itself to coating virtually anything. Ive seen some UV cured powder coats too.

Not much comparative data that Ive seen on floor stuff, but just starting. Lots of vendors touting their brew, but thats it.

Glitsa is still a great finish. The one I prefer actually . As far as other benefits, the homeowner can immediately put rugs down...

I think it'd be good for garage coatings.

To our knowledge they have not perfected UV coatings for concrete. We would strongly advise staying away until the technology is well proven.
