Did Craftsman ever mix VV&V in the same set? I purchased a few Craftsman tool sets back in the mid 70’s as a teenager and going through the combination wrench set which I know is original there are both V&VV. Did the V&VV designate the date of manufacture or who the manufacture was? Thanks

so, what is the point of these markings if they are not specific to either oem or date range?

sorry total noob question. is it simply a design pattern or engineering spec?

Don't know if it changed, but the original reason was to eventually send back to the manufacturer for replacement or rebate. Also it would enable some degree of quality control at Sears if multiple manufacturers were used to make the same item- which do we send whatever back to if a bad batch is received? Remember the codes were used for more than just handtools. In the case of items requiring repair parts, such codes would enable easier sourcing.

I also have an old set of Craftsman sockets I got from Sears back in the 1970's and it has different stamps on the tools. The ratchet was replaced a few times and I wish I would have had my original with the steel flip lever repaired. At least I have a working set. Some of the pictures should have stampings shown. After uploading I actually noticed a socket with a "G" on it. These are all original except the ratchet.

Thanks for all of the replies, seeing the different code dates it is possible to have V & VV in the same Craftsman set from Sears.

Some of my tools in my gray Craftsman box were bought a long time ago but others were bought a few years ago to fill in some spots. I would have to go pull out the tools and figure out what codes are on them.
