Vacuum adapter for Makita sander

I ordered a vacuum attachment for my Makita sander. The attachment requires a 3/4" ID hose. How can I adapt a 3/4" ID hose (rubber hose from the hw store) to fit a universal vacuum adapter attachment with a 1" OD.

I'm thinking slide the rubber hose into the the universal vacuum adapter attachment and use a hose clamp and be done with it?

Is there a better solution?

Pics:
1. Vacuum attachment
2. universal vacuum adapter attachment
3. $25 part that I don't want to buy. ;)

Good idea. If I can adapt from the hose (assuming 1" OD )straight to the vacuum cleaners hose (2") I could skip spending $10 on that universal vacuum adapter attachment.

I'd need a reduced coupling ~ 2" to 1"

This is the closest match I found.

Heat gun the 1.84" side to wrap around the 2" hose and I should be good.

Finding this for less than $10 shipped will be a pain. ;)

What about a pvc coupler that fits the vacuum hose well andnis close to the sander size and then some metal duct tape to seal/hold everything together

I've seen quite a few vacuum adapters that folks have 3D printed. Not that a 3D printer is a cheap solution, bet there's enough of them in households that you might know someone who could print one for you. Makerspaces might cooperate for a small fee for the filament. The Makerspaces I have visited charge by the ounce for members.

You could also go the really cheap way and wrap some black electrical tape around the outside of the Makita adaptor that you bought until it fit snuggly into the 1 inch hose you have.

Or, you could go to any big box store and see if they have any PVC fittings or pipe that are close to what you need. If they are close, as in the diameters you need are slightly smaller, then you can always heat up the PVC fittings or piece of pipe with a heat gun or similar, and when the PVC is soft, you force it over the top of your adaptor to stretch the PVC, and let it sit on there until it cools down.

Then remove it, and you have a perfectly fitting piece for your vacuum system. I have done this many times over the years. I just made myself a funnel adaptor to increase the length of a funnel I use to poor water into things.

I needed the funnel to reach down about a foot longer for something, and I used a foot long piece of 3/4 inch PVC pipe to do it. I heated up one end with my heat gun until the PVC was soft. Then I pushed the PVC pipe onto the end of the funnel, and left it there until it cooled down. Then I took it off.

I now have a 1 foot extension for my funnel that fits perfectly over the end of the funnel.

I just went through all this **** trying to fit the Rockler hose kit onto my Dust Deputy. DD has a 2" inlet and the Rockler hose has a 2-1/4 end on it.
I wound up ordering a silicone coupler made for the automotive industry for joining pipes together for turbos and air intakes. I paid $20, but since that joint is going to have a lot of stress on it, I might appreciate it later.
It seems that there is no standard when it comes to the vacuum hoses and fittings.
One guy on YouTube was heating up PVC pipe and forcing it over connections and then cooling it with chiller spray or letting it cool slowly.

I was in the same boat with the dust deputy. Plumbing no hub rubber connector here. Most if not all of my tools now use a pvc outlet of 1.5 inch ID that fits very tight to the end of my male vacuum cleaner hose. I took a weekend and epoxyed everything they are not coming off and look kinda crappy but they are strong and seal well.

I looked everywhere for a plumbing fitting and could not find a 2" to a 2-1/4" anywhere.

This is where heating up the PVC fittings and creating your own works great.

If you have never heated up a PVC fitting or pipe to make it fit something else a bit bigger, it is actually very easy, and works great. If your careful, you can even reduce the PVC fitting and pipe using the same heating method and by carefully pushing the larger PVC item into the item you want it to fit into.

I expanded a few 2 inch PVC hub couplings to be able to connect my shop vac's 2-1/4 inch hose to some 2 inch PVC pipe to create a vacuum tube system in my basement. I already had the 2 inch PVC pipe, and the hub coupling, so I just heated up one end of the coupling, and while it was soft I pushed the end of the coupling over top of the shop vac hose end and left it there for a few minutes while it cooled down and hardened back up again.

Now I can fit my shop vac hose to my vacuum tube system with no problems. And it was cheap and easy to do.

Hooked up a 3/4" heater hose to the Makita adapter which I connected to the universal vacuum adapter attachment using my heat gun.

Hose clamps on everything and it seems to do an Ok job on dust collection.

Thanks for all the tips.

When people are tossing their relatively new upright vacuums I stop and grab the flexible hose for the hand attachments. They usually have heavy duty plastic ends that you can shave the outside of or ream the inside of to fit various power tool dust ports.

I have 3 or 4 hoses stored for specific tools like my PC hand sanders and my Kreg jig.

Cheers

I did the same thing with my Porter-Cable, only I just wrapped the joints with electrical tape.

I highly recommend this hose adapter if you are running a 35mm hose, it fits IN or ON almost every tool I have. Its a very flexible adapter, and takes a lot of abuse.

Not sure if you are running a std 2.5" shopvac type hose, if so look at this adapter -

But its tricky, the difference for a good fit and not working is tough.

I do absolutely love my Bosch 35mm hose I bought on sale, lightweight, flexible, excellent adapter tip... now its a bit more money.

The hose might be worth if it if I was doing a lot of sanding....

My setup is a bit heavy and awkward.... but it works.

My latest hack hose adapter will be for my Bosch 365 jigsaw. I bought the Bosch vac adapter and I plan on using this plumbing coupling to make it fit.
