I've got a couple regulated DC power supplies, both are pretty low power, 0-10 amps and 0-1000 milli-amps both are either current or voltage limiting. one has a dedicated 12v and 5v out along with the variable output. I pretty much use them for small portable radio power supplies and charging ni-cads that don't have a charger...they're not cheap, but I got mine for $40 for the pair from an auction. I think retail is >$100, which is why a lot of folks just use a battery charger...they are handy though if you do a lot of electronic repair like I do...

Anyone know anything about Variable power supplies? I have never had one and I feel like it would serve me well. It could be useful for electrolysis or a hot wire foam cutter (both things I would/plan on using soon).

I think you are going to need a lot more amps than that. At least 10A ???
