Hello! I'm new to the forum. I've been lurking for the past week and decided to join. Love this discussion forum about garage stuff.

I have a two-car garage and I would like to prepare/apply epoxy floor coatings (DIY). I went to Home Depot and Lowe's and examined both products. I'm not sure which one is better...

Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield?

Valspar Garage Floor Coating?

My biggest concern is "hot tire peel" because I live in Southern California, the summer temps are often over 100 degrees. The street surface is very hot (enough to fry an egg). I'm sure that the tires are hot as well.

I've been thinking about acid-staining/clear coating the garage floor. Is it more durable than epoxy coating? It's hard to find acid-stain paint in stores here in So Cal because of strict South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). They only allow low-voc type paint.

Any advice and suggestions are greatly appericated.
thanks

If you are going to buy the lower cost epoxy paint kits, then the Rustoleum Professional kit is the better of the ones you mentioned. It's solvent based with a higher solids content which will provide for a thicker dry film thickness and better resistance to hot tire pick up than the water based products.

If your budget will allow you to spend a few more dollars, I would recommend that you go with one of the 100% solids kits that you can purchase instead. You will get a much better product for the money spent.
