A guy locally is offering this rather sorry looking state of affairs, he started by asking £800 ($1312) which was, well incredibly ambitious, and has now dropped it to £650 ($1066) but has also let on that the ryobi rotary tool doesn't work.

I'm having a hard time seeing much value here to be honest, since the bottom box is busted up badly and there doesn't appear to be much quality in what tools there are on display.

What would the good folks of GJ offer, if at all?

I would offer $600 tops.Mainly because the boxes look abused and it appears he doesnt care about his investment.

My offer would most likely drop when I saw everything in person.

Not much, he might have some decent stuff buried in there but it's not well organized. Not much effort put into it, you'll end up throwing half of it out. $100 bucks, starting bid.

It's an interesting box, but needs a LOT of work. There may be some good tools included, but it's hard to tell in the jumble and grime. If the seller want's top dollar (pound), he needs to clean and organize it better. I'd say that from the provided blurry photos, it would be in the £100 - £250 range depending on what you find when you view it.

Hard thing to answer, but I agree, on the surface it's a stretch.

Bad: Broken roller, abused boxes and tools

Good: a few good to top quality tools shown

Unknown: What the hell is in all the rest of the drawers...

You will have to go look, touch, feel, to know what is there.

How many tools of what initial quality, and what remaining quality...

I'd go look and probably be in the $1 per tool ball park, and the boxes get tossed in free...

Yeah I'm going to stand off of it for a bit and see where the price goes.

Never hurts to throw your hat in the ring early. If the box looks like some thing you want, tell the seller you would pay a certain low amount if they are interested in selling the box quickly. Leave a contact and maybe they'll see that as reasonable and contact you.

I've done this several times, always on stuff that needs work or is in bad shape and with overly optimistic sellers, often get a call back at my price and buy it that way. Takes time and you can't be impatient.

$100 ha. Looks like a pile of **** to me. Didn't pin point anything of real value. Im sure there is some stuff of value there but don't see it. Doesn't seem like he cares a whole lot about his investment. Why should you?

I have a hard time taking any of those prices like that seriously because 9 times out of 10, 80-90% of the tools are pure junk, ie., mostly no-name Asian made tools that are worth pennies on the dollar, or pound, in your case.
