What do you guys think a used 6.5 HP Briggs and Stratton vertical shaft engine would be worth?

What kind of equipment did the engine originally power? Used pressure washer engines are easy to come by and, in my estimation, are somewhat more universal. Used mower engines are only useful if the engine fits a specific application. I haven't had much luck getting more than about $40 for a used running briggs but a honda gx or even gc series engine can fetch double or more.

Vertical engines are a dime a dozen. Lawnmower engines have a light flywheel and can only be used on a lawnmower. They've got little value even new.

$25-35, and you may be lucky to get that much. In fact, I've seen some guys make more parting out running engines than actually selling the engine complete.

When I have an old engine like that I like to take it out to the woods, fire it up, and put it down with my .44 magnum.
