Value of some taps and bits

I have a giant box of mostly taps, some reamers and a ton of 3/8" bits. I've pulled out more than I'll ever use to keep. What you see below is what I'm not keeping and looking to purge, but I have no idea on the value. Looking for input. TIA (I have plenty of additional pics, but didn't want to overload)

Have you done the work to determine what they would cost new?

I haven't found exact matches, but figured I can pick up something similar from Irwin at the local hardware store for $8-$15 for most taps, other than the 1/2". I just don't know if these are "industrial" grade or hardware store grade. Maybe a better way to ask the question is, "what would you be willing to pay for these?" I'm also not sure why anyone would need that many 3/8 bits. This is maybe 1/3 of what I have, but I intend to keep the rest.

How worn are they? These tools look like they've been used in manufacturing. There's probably still some use to be had, but manufacturers generally don't change out tooling unless they really have to.

They have also not been stored properly; taps and drills need to be stored so that they can't bang into each other. Not sure I'd expect a jackpot here...

Yeah, I'm not lucky enough to hit the jackpot, but am I looking at $50 or $500 for everything? Plan is to post them up on CL or Facebook for a fair price.

Id say 20 bucks for all of it. But who wants 20 of the same bit, not many people.

For $20 I'll just toss everything in the recycle bin. Too many crazies in this part of the world to make $20 it worth the hassle. I'm not saying I can't use $20, but I'm not willing to have some potential unhinged person come to my house for that or make a trip half way across town to a public meeting place.

Hit the nail on the head.

That many drills or taps in a single size, stored randomly in a box, screams used production tooling.

Contact your local school "Shop Teacher". Your local high school may not have one but look for a Community College or State University.

To be clear, all of the drill bits are 3/8 and a bunch of the taps and reamers (probably 35 of the 89), but the rest is varying sizes. Agreed, there's more 3/8 stuff than most could ever use. Maybe I'll see if I can find a local bladesmith or blacksmith that could use the steel.

Donating to a local trade school/high school is a good option. Or sell them at garage sales/swap meets for $1 per drill/reamer/tap

Fear not. In my many years, I’ve never met a person interested in woodworking or metal working who was a creep. Selling cheap will be easy. You’ll be helping a craftsperson and may well make a friend.

alternatively you could eBay those drill bits for $3/each, $5 shipping. They look to be good quality US made and can be resharpened good as new. Look like machine drills, not that common.
