valve core on 5/16 adapter

For a mini split you almost always need to use a 5/16" female to 1/4 male" so regular hoses can fit for evacuation..

on this adapter made by YJ, is this a schrader valve core? Do you recommend to remove it first so it doesn't have to vacuum thru 2 schrader valves including the one on the service port?

Do you remove it using a tire core tool?

Why do you need to remove it?
It will work just fine the way it is.

Vacuum will be slower, but it is not necessary to remove it.

The best tool to pull a vacuum is a core removal tool such as the Appion:

That tool is very useful in replacing a leaky valve core on a fully charged working unit with minimal refrigerant loss and also very convenient as you don't need to recover and recharge a working unit just to replace a leaky valve core.

I guess I will just keep it on there. I am not pressed for time and I don’t want to deal with using a core removal tool

Will you use a Tee or do you have digital gauges with a built-in vacuum gauge?

I have a 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 flare brass tee to add in micron gauge..

Tee 1 YJ 12" hose to 5/16 adapter
Tee 2 YJ 36" hose with valve (for isolation / rise test)
Tee 3 (Upwards) micron gauge


Do you think oil will get in the micron gauge if I gently release the charge from the opposite side the service port is on? Thinking to gently get it positive 50-70 psi, shut the valve and disconnect the whole setup before opening it fully.

That’s a lot of Tees.. more possible leaking points.

I put a valve to isolate my micron gauge to keep it from getting contaminated.

I was just describing the 3 ends of the same tee, not 3 actual tees.

I am aware there may be leak due to number of connections. I will put a valve at the micron gauge.
