Valve for compressor outlet

My compressor currecnty has a folter regulator on the outlet but no valve. I'm considering adding some sort of valve as I'm thinking it will be useful.

My only concern is whether the valve will restrict the airflow given the inside of ball valves seems to be fairly small.

Unless everything on the line has the same pipe diameter, you'll have a bottle neck somewhere. By valve are you meaning a shut off valve?

How big is the tank fitting where you want to add the valve?

The fitting is 1/4 bspt and yes I do mean a shuttoff valve.

I am currently using 3/8" hose

Get a "full port" ball valve. They have the same size thru them as the pipe would have, not the much smaller size of regular valves. Even Home Depot and Lowes has full port valves.

Just for kicks look at the quick couplings that you use and you'll really see some constriction...
