Valve Seal Pliers

I'm tearing down the head on an old m30 (bmw big six), and the valve seals are old and brittle. I tried a normal set of pliers and they just broke into a bunch of pieces. I'm no professional and this is probably the last time I tear down an engine head anytime soon, so I'm looking for a cheap solution.

Any recommendations for a cheap set of valve seal pliers? Schley seems to be the only brand that makes them except the blue point 60$ ones that are probably rebranded schley's anyway.

Any ideas?

Thanks

KD makes a set but don't worry about breaking them, you can't reuse them. Push the valve out and then snap them off.

I've never had a problem getting them out with needle nose. The first time I did it though I was using borrowed tools and one of them was relay pullers. That's probably what my mechanic friend uses.

Thanks guys, I'll try to track down the kd ones locally, or just bite the bullet and buy the schleys online. As for snapping them off, the bottom part is stuck around the valve guides and I dont want to damage the guides.

Got this for $15. Looks like it can be used to pull hoses too if there's enough clearance to use it.

Jay, I ended up getting the exact same set off ebay for a bit more than you spent, but was able to strip the entire head of old valve seals in a couple minutes. The feeling of having the proper tool is very satisfying.

Looks like a very good quality tool. Just holding it in your hands gives the feeling already. I'll send this to our shop where it would be more useful. They work mostly on DOHC Honda engines over there.
