Good morning all.

Currently renovating my shop and need to do some aluminum trim. I don’t need to bend a lot but it would take me several weekends. I was wondering how many members own their own bender and if they are worth having long term or better off to rent several times. My son is a sheet metal apprentice but in the hvac area of the field. Thanks for the input.

Several weekends? Buy a used one on Craigslist, sell it when done. Don't know why it would take several weekends, measure bend it all at once plus a couple of extras then
return a rental or pay a pro to spend one day bending it for you, probably cheaper than
renting several times.

You can find them on craigslist, just watch out they're not abused. I just bought a Van Mark Trim A Brake on CL. Got a good deal but the vinyl strip on it needs replacement and that's like around $85.00. I also have a Tapco brake and that vinyl strip is only $35.00. Personally, I think the Tapco is a better brake.

I bought one for my shop build, its a Tapco which is just a competitor. It took me probably a month since I'm just 1 guy and never did any trim work before. My shop connected to another existing building so there were several pieces which are custom-made.

It was greatly appreciated, well worth it. I have considered selling it but probably wait until my neighbor finishes his shop and my brother is speaking of a build also.

I'd guess that the OP has never done it before and is going to work slowly, double/triple checking things as he is learning.

I bought my Tapco when I was siding a friends house. Sure is nice to have my own but I had borrowed one before to do my house. It's bought, paid for and hanging on the wall.
