Hello,

Anyone have experience using the no24 or similar from Van Norman?

Getting my lighting to work again at the moment; but unsticking the overarm is also at the top of my list of things to do. Then it's sort out the garage more & figure just how I want to add the 3 phase converter to power this machine.

I have a 1RQ-3-28, which I suspect is a little newer, the motor is inside the ram instead of on top, and mine has a quill. My overarm was stuck as well, though a little different, it's a casting with dovetails instead of a round rod. I'd spray it down liberally with a good penetrating oil, remove the locks and spray in there as well. Then start hitting it with a sledge hammer, with a block of wood in between, so as not to damage anything. The key is to shock it.
Good luck, Jim

Hi Brock. I do like those Van Norman ram type mills. Very versatile and hell for stout. I have a #26 which is work ready. My locks on the overarm were a little bound at first but freed right up. I've got a fair amount of tooling but always looking for more. Ed.

Used the draw bar to make a slide hammer. With a lot of PB Blaster, that did the trick!

Nice #26 Oregon! What is the box on the wall? I love the VN Logo. I've seen it on some belt covers, but, mine is plain.

Id like to see the 1RQ-3-28 that 454 mentioned too!

Glad you got it loose Brock...good thinking there. The wall mount box by my mill holds some of the tooling for my VN. It was an old 400 amp electric disconnect enclosure but it had that Timothy Leary Van Norman styling so I converted it to it's current use. Ed.

Does your mill have a NMTB taper or the VN taper?

If you are looking for info, sympathy or comfort there is a fairly active Van Norman group on Yahoo.
