Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher,
vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

What does a man gain by all the toil
at which he toils under the sun?

Ecclesiastes 1 Verses 1-3

Ehh...well, in about 4 weeks of toil (part time after work and on weekends), I built THIS vanity out of quarter sawn Oak. We gutted our downstairs bathroom in our 1918 farmhouse and this will be going in to replace a cheap box store vanity I put in 30 years ago when we bought the house. Right now this is sitting in the corner of our dining room waiting on construction progress.

The side panels are paperbacked QS Oak Veneer over 3/4" MDF. The rest of it is solid hardwood. The square peg accents are rosewood. I finished it with some water based grain sealer and a few coats of tung oil for a vintage look. I purchased the marble top assembly from a semi-local Amish custom marble workshop. The faucet is by Delta. The design (for good or bad) is my own. I built it to match a craftsman style medicine cabinet I previously built for the bathroom. That design was purchased from LumberJocks.

The ultimate plan for the vanity is to build a second piece that will consist of a door frame, 2 cabinet doors and a cabinet floor that will slide underneath and lock into place. That will give us some under vanity storage but also allow it to be "Convertible" for wheelchair access if needed in the future.

The 2nd phase is on hold for now. Seems like every day when I get home and talk to the carpenters who gutted and are now rebuilding the bathroom, they give me another thing to put on my to-do list. The vanity will be installed as is and I'll make the middle section later. Rough plumbing got put in this week, so I'm not staying very far ahead of construction.
