Vapor barrier basics?

I'm wanting to frame out an insulated living space in a pole building that we just put up. (Missouri). Is there a post on here that explains the basics of vapor barriers? Does the barrier go between the external metal and the insulation, or does it go between the studs and the drywall? I'm sure I'm not doing a good job of asking that question, just want to make sure if I need to be adding it before doing something that I'd like to know before I get started.

Vapour barrier goes on the warm side of the insulation. Which side that is depends on your weather.

Missouri... 100 degrees in summer and 0 in winter. How do I use that to determine which side to put it on?

What type of insulation? You want the wall to dry from both side .. if possible .......and you want to minimize air flow. In a cold climate you need to protect the inside of the sheeting from moisture -- keep it above the dew point.


Normally plastic VB is not a good idea -- unless the exterior drying is above average.

Maybe I should back up and ask, what is the best setup for me to try and finish a living space in a pole building.... I was assuming that I'd use some type of insulation, but I do not have any picked out yet. Right now what I have is a metal shell pole building. I want to frame in a living space, and insulate it. I was also assuming that it would need some type of moisture barrier. That's as far as I got...
