Do you have to have it if you coat your floor?

I was talking to a friend the other day about coating my floor & he said that if I didn't put down plastic under the slab before I poured it that anything I put on the concrete would eventually bubble, peel, or lift due to moisture from the fill dirt beneath.

Any truth to this?

That's one of the main reasons you put a vapor barrier under a slab, to eliminate lifting (tile, coatings, etc). Depending on what finish you want, there are special applications for floors with no VB, but it would be cheaper to just put one in while pouring the slab.

You can still Coat your Flooring. You need to use a product called Hydra-Seal or Hydra-Lock, Before your Bond Coat. It's made by Endur - O- Seal USA.. We use them in the same situation as you described.

I would First Shot Blast, Or Blast Trac your Flooring. Apply Hydra Seal and then apply Your Coatings.

Endur-O-Seal offers sealers that will permanently seal Cement capillaries and no longer allow water, water vapor or gasses to get into your Slab. It uses the porosity of the concrete to deliver the sealer deep inside the concrete and then expand into these capillaries as it hardens into insoluble silicate minerals. (Silicates are the "binders" of concrete.)

The advice your friend gave is part right. Due to the fact that a lot of floors are like yours there have been coatings developed to perform great in the applications you speak.

Vapor Emissions will cause MOST coatings to fail but Some will not.

Our Super Single product performs Great under those conditions.
