Vapor barrier

I noticed a thread here where people were discussing vapor barriers they had placed under the concrete garage slab. I'm going to be working with a builder on a new house (we have not committed yet) and so I asked him last night if he routinely puts a vapor barrier under the garage slab.

He said he does do one under the basement, but not under the slab because there "aren't any water table issues" with the home site. Should I make sure he puts one down before installing the floor, or is he right? How much might this add to the cost? The garage is to be 30 wide by 22 deep.

Thanks for any input!

Not much cost and the reason they don't do it for a garage is that typically people don't "live" in a garage. If you're going to do an epoxy floor or have anything more than what "normal" people have for garages - you want the vapor barrier.

Thanks, PAToyota. Do you or does anyone else have any recommendations on what should be put down as a barrier?
