Vapor vs “regular” lights, and lighting vendor discrepancy...

Hi there. Upgrading lighting and would like to know everyone’s opinion on vapor lights?

I received two layouts and each one was different, I.e one company said 4 fixtures (regular), and the other said 6 fixtures (vapor) as I mentioned I’d be occasionally washing cars in the garage.

How can two vendors come up with two different layouts with the same demensions?

How important would the vapor lights be in a wet invironment?

Obviously I’m not directly spraying the lights, but there’s the possibility of occasional splashing.

Ceilings are 11.5’ high.

Just wondering how accurate these company layouts are? They are simplistic compared to Platonics layouts.

Vapor Tight is the correct lingo.
One wouldn't expect two companies, using two different styles of fixture, to come to the same conclusion. The fixtures probably have different light output, different beam angles, different lenses, etc. etc.... That's how you get different results.
Plus, one company might be greedier than the other. One company might want to try to sell you the more expensive fixture than the other. There's lots of reasons that you get different results.
Most LED fixtures are rated for use in damp locations. That means that they can handle some normal moisture, maybe an occasional splash. Not sure what you're doing in there, but if normal use includes getting the fixtures wet, then you should get the Vapor Tights.

Vendor A said that vendor B’s fixtures were similar and he doesn’t know how they came to the conclusion they did (less fixtures). His (A) fixtures were vapor tight as I mentioned car washing. Vendor B later “upgraded” his recommendation to vapor tight.

So, you’d go with vapor tight then? 11.5’ ceilings and I’ll occasionally use a pressure washer in the garage.

Yeah, LED fixtures can only handle moisture. Condensation, steam, etc. is OK, but not directly wet from weather or hoses. If that is likely to happen in your space, then get the VT fixtures.
They use computers to determine the spacing of fixtures. You have to input a bunch of information to get a good result. Chances are that one guy input the info differently, or the computer had different settings, or they used different software. Who knows.
