The dimmer switch for the lights on my ceiling fans just took a **** and there for needs replaced so while I'm at it I'm going to update the fan switch as well but first I want to address an issue with the fans. In my basement I have 2 ceiling fans set up on a Variable speed fan control switch that is wired first to one fan, then from there on to the next but the problem is they have an annoying hum in this configuration. To eliminate the hum I believe I read somewhere ( a long time ago )that each fan should be serviced by it's own separate hot wire ran in parallel all the way from the variable speed switch. Am I correct? The basement is finished so any wire changes are not feasible. My question is if I were to replace the variable speed with a a three speed fan control would that eliminate the hum? Feel free to recommend any particular switches but I'm not interested in wi-fi stuff. Thanks
