I really like the looks of the garages posted here with the checkerd VCT, but if doesn't appear that any have floor drains.

My garage is almost done. Getting ready to pour concrete (floor) in a week or so. The size is 28 x 34, and I was planning on leaving one bay flat/level with no floor drain, and one bay with a floor drain.

How much trouble is it laying the VCT on the slight slope that goes toward the drain. Would I be better of with no drains at all?

I'd like to see some photos of the VCT around drains, if anyone has any

You dont normally see drains in a floor that has VCT. Water and VCT do not get along. The water will eventually wear at the glue and make it lift.

That's funny, i happen to see floor drains in VCT in every lab here at work, every grocery store i walk through etc. etc.

It's obvious that having the concrete floor pitched towards the drain will help, then the VCT just follows the slope of the floor.

The VCT flooring I have seen with drains is of the commercial grade and if I recall, they usually have several cuts in the tile to handle the 360 degree slope near the drain ?

Flame,
In this area, floor drains are basically not allowed in garages. I think you can do them with a grease trap but I cant imagine what the expense would be for that. Might want to check with your inspectors to make certain that the floor drain is ok.

I have a center floor drain. The tile conformed to the floor slope just fine. I also wash my cars in the garage, no problem with tile lifting.

search for thead titled VCT Install on Sunday, pictures show the floor drain (4" round in center of floor)
