Sorry if this has been posted before, but my garage has 1/2" wide expansion joints in the concrete. Is VCT an option and if so how do you deal with the expansion joints?

thanks, Mark

As my first post, I am curious about the answer to this as I am considering VCT for my garage and I also have expansion Joints.

Thanks

In addition, I'd like to know about cracks in the floor, and how to deal with them when using VCT.

You cut the VCT at the edge of the joint. You don't have to, but it'll end up cracking there so a cut edge will look better than a ragged edge. Then fill with a piece of foam backer rod and caulk with something that matches the VCT color.

So, just to make sure I understand. Lay the foam backer rod in the joint and caulk over it to the level of the tile?

If it really has 1/2" wide joints, does it already have a filler? Are you talking about an expansion joint around the peremeter of the slab or a control joint cut down the middle?

Could be control joints - Basically, I have a joint going down center of the floor and one going across the floor. They are 1/2" wide round-edged joints and they are not filled in with anything. I guess they are the joints whereby when the concrete moves it cracks there rather than across the slab.
