Hey all,

As I'm scraping up my peeling and chipping epoxy floor Ive been thinking about what I want to do for the VCT. My garage is personal use only (some friends also) so we are not talking high traffic or working with rusty cars all day long. I don't like the "checkered" flag look and have played with a few designs but just not liking them. I'm a pretty simple / plain guy. Here is the layout of the garage back when i bought it. Its 29'x28' with a floor drain in the center.

I was thinking the bays for each car will be black and the rest in a gray or dark gray like this and black in front of the bench area

then i figured I needed to add something to the floor. Ive been drag racing for 14 years now and there is no end in sight so came up with this

only problem is the central floor drain and my lift will take up one of the yellow lights if I measured correctly. I came up with this one which i think I'm going to do. Put the xmas tree in the walking path in front of the bench for all to see

which brings me to another question….does anyone know if their local Menards / HomeDepot etc carries red / yellow / green tiles? Would be nice to not have to buy a whole box if someone could help me out. Thanks!

I like this one. It has style and is functional.

For low amounts of colored tiles you may have an issue. The big box stores do not usually carry colored tiles other than a few of the most basic colors. Yellow and red no. You might be able to order them by one box at a time and keep them for spares.

This is how i did mine. I have 3 bays, 2 with an 18' wide double door, and 1 with a 9' door, not shown in the pic.

It helps me position a car on the lift really easy, i just hang my head out the window and line up the tires with the blue tiles.

It also helps my wife park in her bay and center the car up and know where to stop so it leaves enough room to walk behind and in front of the cars

Correct, this fall will be the 4th year. I did not acid wash anything, just soap and water, let dry and went to town. My floor did sit for about 1 yr after we poured the floor but i never sealed it because i knew i was installing VCT. Here are some pics of the floor, its just a powertroweled finish at installation and then washed clean prior to VCT install

I acually work in my garage alot, i have had hundreds of cars on the lift, dropped tons of rust from brake jobs, a few axles fell on the VCT, made some impressions, i had urethane bushings catch fire from the torch and drip hot urethane on the tiles. Those tiles has some staining (had to use brake fluid to take the urethane off) and the ones that had the axles fall on them have some deep impressions, but this spring i will pop them out and lay new ones (about 8 tiles total, a whopping $6, lol) and its good to go.
