VCT on concrete garage floor

I want to install VCT on my bare concrete floor. 20 years old plain concrete. It’s clean and smooth, I’m going to fill the cracks and a few holes that has happened over the years. Should I use a notched trowel to put the glue down or do I use the smooth side then go over it with the notched side? I am making myself a weighted roller with a 4” PVC pipe filled with concrete inside and a small pipe in the middle to pas a rope throughout.
Any advice would be very appreciated on what I’m getting ready to do.

Follow the glue instructions and you'll get the hang of the install process pretty quickly.

Good knee pads are important and before you spend a bunch of time making a roller, I'd check rental prices. Might be worth doing that vs having to spend the time then throw it away or store afterwards.

i wanted to add that I got all the tile for $200 todo my 24x24 ,I’m doing it in 4 colors sort of in a Harley-Davidson color. Not sure which layout I’m doing yet but all 3 uses up all my tiles

Make sure you account for some waste/damage.

Rent or buy a cutter and snap chalk lines to have layout to work from. Having to stop and measure is no fun

Yes, local, they had a bunch of overages. Still do. They do military bases and end up with tons of overstoDK.
