VCT over epoxy...

I've made up my mind to lay down some checkered VCT over the holidays. I'll be sure to do a nice write-up and get a ton of pics.

Right now I have Rustoleum industrial epoxy and I am thinking that the tile glue isn't gonna stick to it very well. Would scuffing the surface by hand be enough, or do I need to rent some heavy duty sander and really lay into the floor?

I would think you'd want to scuff the surface like you said. I've read on other boards of taking a 4.5 inch grinder and working it over. I'm looking forward to the write up.

to heavyly scratch the surface would be a better way to describe the prep process..

50 grit in a belt sander... light pressure and let the sander do the work.. clean the belt often with a rubber block...

or a RT angle grinder works with surface conditioning disks...

watch out that you limit the amount of heat you generate with the sander... you will get a fussion of frit and destroy yur belts in the process...
an added step for a better finsh floor is to use a scraper on the floor after sanding and just before glue up... there will be a bazillion **** of sanded material that have welded themselves back on to the floor... this will give ya the idea but a scrap piece of sheet metal will work fine..
