VCT purchase sources?

Hi all,

After reading the volumes about epoxy vs. tile vs. racedeck (or similar) vs. staining, I have decided to go VCT.

Does anyone have a good (read cheap) source for 1200 sq ft of tile? If the source isn't within 75 -100 miles or so of Madison, WI. it would need to be shipped.

You can do special orders through Home Depot and Lowes, probably Menards too if they don't have colors that you like. They usually stock whites, grays and neutrals in the store.

Other than that, your best bet is a local commercial flooring distributor. They may or may not want to sell to you since you aren't a contractor. Then again, in this economy, they may bend the rules to make a sale.

VCT to do an area the size of a 1200 sf garage will be a couple of pallets. Costly to ship and then you'll have to be home when the truck freight shows up.

I got mine at Lowe's. Menard's / HD / Lowe's is all special order except for 3 colors (I forget which ones). I originally ordered from Menard's and then cancelled the order when they upcharged me $5 / box for them being 'special order'. Apparently, their stock colors are one price, and anything they have to order (90% of the colors available) is another - sign didn't say that. Just ticked me off. So, went to Lowe's & ordered and saved $60. Took about 2 weeks for it to come in.
You don't want to ship them. Each tile weighs 1.6 lbs. for a total of 72 lbs. per box. 1200 sq. ft. will take you 27-28 boxes, or just over 1 ton of tile.

I special ordered through Lowes when they had 20% off custom flooring.

I got mine at Home Depot. They DO NOT charge extra to special order any color and I did not have to pay any shipping charges. I don't recall the reg. price but I waited to order it when it was on sale and then opened a charge account to get an extra 15% off. The final price was close to .40 per sq ft and that was true for the special order stuff. More than fair I thought.
