VCT's in a hot/cold climate?

Hey guys,anyone out there have VCT's in their garages that live in the northern part of this continent? I went to price out Armstrong VCT's at the local flooring company & the sales guy said with our climate changes,most likely they will pop. Is there a better adhesive for my igloo.....er.....garage that would hold in the winter? Thanks, Jay.

I tend to think I would be looking at some heat and a bit of cooling before I invested in tiles to impress the neighbors. You wouldnt have to keep it South Florida warm or icebox cold, just knock the tops off a bit. I wouldnt want my nice garage freezing,, ever,,, anyway.

I live in Maryland and I just installed the VCT tiles in my garage a few weeks ago. I just used the regular adhesive (S750 I think). I obviously haven't experienced a winter yet but so far they have been fine in the hot weather we have had. I figure that if a few start popping up, I'll just replace them. I did put down the BLT garage mats so hopefully that should help a little during the months with rain and snow. Here are some pictures. Sorry for the bad picture quality - they were taken with my camera phone.

I installed Armstrong black & white VCT in my 1350 sq. ft. garage one year ago and have had NO problems. We had a few 10-degree nights here in WV in Jan and Feb. and we've been in the 90's now for a few weeks. Granted, I use a 3-ton heatpump and keep the garage around 68 in the winter and 70 in the summer, but the floor looks like it did when first installed. Good luck eith your project!

Well my garage is heated as well, although I do let the temp drop to the 50's if I'm not going to be out there for a while. And Air Conditioned, although mnimally, and I don't use it often.

It was also new concrete, 3 to 4 months old. I rinsed it with muratic, rinsed it, brushed it with latex , and used an exterior mastic.

The heat from the tires /exhaust has been known to pop tiles. Solved this with a pair of rubber entry mats placed when the tires sit. A cheap version of those fancy floor mats.

Have also had problems in the spring, cold floor warm wet air. WET Floor, which is the real reason I put in the Air, it's more to dehumidify.

You do have to be careful, but nothing will be perfect.

Model 51910-031 $31.95 (ALSO COMES IN 14 OTHER COLORS INCLUDING WHITE)"
Looks to be thicker than their other tiles...more commercial oriented. Wonder if it'll hold up for the 5 year guarantee period in my shop??? At ~69 cents per tile, might be a good cost effective floor covering. Your comments please, Bill

That's what I used - the black and white commercial VCT tiles from Home Depot. See my pictures above. They have worked out great so far in my non climate controlled garage in Maryland.

Would like to know how it's holding up? And where did you buy those mats?
