Does anyone here have some sort of system in place to remove vehicle exhaust from their garage? Ive seen systems in professional garages, usually some sort of flexible hose ran through a port in the door. I'm wondering if anyone has a similar system at home. I would like to be able to run a vehicle with the door shut to keep heat in. Of course a CO detector is a must.

I don't have one but have thought about buying one until I priced them. To expensive for me with the little use it would get.

Back when vacuum cleaner hoses were made of cloth covered rubber I would use them.
I am afraid the current plastic ones may melt though.
It would be worth a try.

You can buy the hose, but it is a bit pricey.

I have some I got at an auction someplace.
Keep your eyes open for local shops going out of business auctions or local government surplus auctions.

I never bothered with the little in the door openings.
I just opened the door the 2 inches.

Yeah Ive got one it was not to bad price wise go to your local hose supplier.
The best part is the v8 burble coming out of the exhaust pipe in the shop wall!!
Also because you don`t hear the sound on the exhaust in the shop you can really hear the internal workings of the motor to listen for knocks etc. Plus no fumes.

Is this to deal with fumes when the cars are running or not running?

I'm building a garage that will use Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) hooked up to the light switch to keep the air clean and heat in while I'm working in the garages but will be installing a separate fume extraction system (or exhaust ports in the garage door) to handle fumes coming out of the tailpipe while I'm running cars in the garage.

Just a suggestion, don't run through the door, but use the wall next to the door if possible. Then you don't run the risk of accidentally opening the door and damaging something. I have ports on both sides of my shop, so if I back something in to work on it, I can still run it with the exhaust ported outdoors.

I thought about building some ports into my garage walls when I built the garage, and decided against it. Holes like that would make for more heat loss, a good place for mice to get into the garage, and I find it easier to just open the door and back the vehicle out when it is started.

Years ago, I "borrowed" an exhaust hose from the dealership where I worked as a tech. However, I forgot to give it back. It is 15' long and has a removable adapter to fit over twin exhaust tips. Right now it's a home for spiders and whatever other dirt/debris/leaves make their way into it.

I put two exhaust ports through walls at opposite ends of the garage. PVC pipe through the stud space, capped on the inside to keep any critters out that might get past the exterior flap. Walls are now insulated and drywalled around the pipe.
