Vehicle toolbox storage

Here is my garage since I don't have my own yet!

Ratchets/accessories in the left slot, sockets/wrenches in middle, pliers on right..the rest of the tools in the tool bag.

Problem I have currently is all the tools love to move around. I just ordered an Ernst wrench organizer(gripper) and socket organizer kit. My thought was to try to velcro the wrench organizer on the lid since it won't fit anywhere else.(also make it super easy to use them when opened) I tested holding my friends wrenches upside down and it seemed to hold so I have hope. Then will fill the socket system with all the sockets and as many accessories will fit on it. I was thinking about making a custom tray to fit in the toolbox and throwing the plastic tray out.

Any ideas on addition mods?

stuff is going to move, you cant help that. I would say a better tray design will probably work best. I have my tools in the plastic case they came in, it works. Everything else important is in the bag and then all the other junk floats around! let us know what you come up with

Great idea using the lid to store tools, they do sell heavy duty velcro.. and the tool sets will be right there when opened. maybe even riveting small angle iron & attach the socket holders so sockets are stored flush with lid..

Yrs ago I was traveling internationally with my tool 100% of the time. At that time, most of the tool companies had an "option" to purchase their tools in metal cases with clasps. I always opted to purchase those with cases. (SK was the best) and after 40 yrs, I still have those tools and cases!

However, while moving, those cases would come open, so we would use either a ty-wrap thru the hasp, or a large rubber band to hold them closed. Amazing, we dodn't loose anything!!

As for the misc hand tools, we had heavy cloth, or leather bags made with zippers. Then all we had to do was write on the bag what the content was. However, after time, you could pick up the bag, and from the feel, you knew what was inside.

This also allowed us to create unique "tool kits" that were used for a specific job. i.e. Installing generators, vs, satellite dishes, vs antenna towers etc. That way we were not carrying a lot of unnecessary weight around!

Check out Klein Tools, as they make some zipper bags for less than $10 that may fullfill your needs!

It was typical to have 10 - 20 of these bags in our Zero Cases, and made it very easy to quickly open the case and sort thru all the bags and cases to find the tool you needed..........

First step complete! Got two HF magnets next...might glue them to the lid as well to put some stuff on.
