I need to replace some broken plastic bubble skylightsand I want to use a real glass skylight. Either I'm no good at finding things or the selection of companies that make these is limited.
Any opinions on skylights [yea I know dont use them, why would you have holes in your roof].

I'd like to use the manually vented one in the kitchen 2'x4' and a 2'x2' fixed in each bath.

These are going on a metal roof so any flashing tips would be nice.
Thanks in advance. Scot

yep velux are the best get yourself down to your local lumberyard, the one that deals mainly with contractors, (not lowes/home depot) they can order & have it w/in 3 business days most likely ours come from a warehouse in Reno I think they usually takes 2-3 days to us.

the 2-0x4-0 will be a VS106 I think, I cant remeber the flashing kit #'s but they were for shingled roof that I ordered
there # is 1 800 88velux if I recall you can get list price from them, the place you order gets a discount then usually marks them back up to just under list

same here, 4 Velux skylights in my garage, I am really happy with them when its cooling down outside and I can open them and get the hot air out. And I love the light they provide in the garage. Since I had no roof, I also got the flashing kit.

I used a Velux skylight similar to what you have described in my old cape cod in Upstate NY. It worked perfectly in the bathroom with that little vent and we had no issues with humidity. Nice construction and easy to install.

I would use one again.

Another happy Velux owner. I installed a 4'x4' motorized opening in our master bathroom 3 years ago. Easy install, good instructions, no problems. I did purchase their flashing kit but had a roofer do the flashing/sealing. He used his own flashing instead but mentioned Velux is the only brand of skylight he is willing to deal with.

I have two in the roof of my house in the UK, its a slate roof and they are great, the important thing is getting the correct flashing kit for the roofing system you are using. The previous owner had attempted to bodge one into the roof of our house in France with the wrong flashing kit and it leaked like a seive so I removed it, didn't really like it where it was anyway. They are the best you can buy IME.

Allright fellas, Velux it is. I'll stop wondering what brand to get and get after it. Just not sure about the flashing for metal roofing, it seems all ya'll had shingles or slate. Both metal suppliers added in flashing for the skylights but I'm sure it is just extra metal and I'll have to figure it out. So Thanks and anymore flashing ideas are welcome.

We have 6 powered vents and 3 fixed lights, very happy. Installed in '98.
One instance of operator malfunction, replaced with no grief and no cost except labor. I would recommend the powered vent over manual. You'll find
reasons to have it open. Although cranking is easy and fast, pushing a button is really easy. Disadvantage is power outages during storm when vent is open. Easily fixed if you close vents before. There is a safety switch on the screen mount, make sure screws are tight before completing installation.

I installed plenty of Velux units in a previous life. I ran ice and water shield up the sides and used the factory flashing kit. Never a leak.

6768rogues, you say you've install plenty of skylights, let me ask you this then. My home had those cheapo plastic bubbles, inside the ceiling ports are nice and trimmed out with the trapezoid shape. I've looked at the velux site at the installation pdf's and just cant seem to understand the deck-mounted diagram[how the inside sheetrock interfaces with the unit]. The curb mounted units look a bit larger and might be a better choice for an application that is already trimmed out. Any thoughts on that? I just cant seem to get away from work and see any skylights in person, hell might not be any in town to look at.
Thanks in advance. Scot.
