Evening folks,
I have taken lots of pictures of my problem and will post them in a bit. Meanwhile, today I decided to clean out the air exchanger (It's a Van-EE 90H). We've been in this house a little over a year and it was time.
Upon inspection, I found that the damper actuator......the linkages to the tabs on the doors (one went to the fresh air inlet, the other to a door at the top of the motor housing) were both broken off. I JB welded them back together and continued cleaning. When I finally put everything back together and the glue had set I decided to give everything a test.
I watched the damper actuator start working as it should but, as it closed the doors, I assumed it would stop and go backwards. Nope.....kept going until it ripped off both repairs and got all jammed up at the back of the unit. I guess I figured out why the little tabs were broken off!
Anyway, no idea where to go from here. I will need two replacement doors by the looks of it but the damper actuator.....not sure what's wrong there.
I found this clip on Youtube (not mine) and you can see how it functions. Unlike this one, mine did not stop like this one does.......it just kept turning until it broke everything:
